Obituary of Marcel W. Doucett
Marcel W. Doucett of Moncton passed away at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont University Hospital on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at the age of 80 years. Born in Moncton he was a son of the late Edgar and Evelyn (Copp) Doucett.
Marcel loved his wife and family deeply. His wife, Joyce, was his soulmate. He knew that she was his destiny. The family they built together meant everything to him.
Marcel grew up in Moncton’s Highfield area and, with Mr. Cassidy’s encouragement earned his electrical licence in half the usual time, despite the challenges he faced in school. He dedicated over 37 years to his job, loving it so deeply that he never considered it work. In his free time, you would find him renovating properties and helping neighbors with every job imaginable. Either by car or motorbike, he loved exploring the Maritime provinces and Magdalen Islands, always with friends and family by his side.
After retiring at 52 from Star Electric and its offshoots, Marcel and Joyce began their journey as foster parents, opening their home to many for over 25 years. He joined Moncton Fish and Game Association and Buckskinners Muzzleloading Association Ltd. and enjoyed the friendships he made there. He could never resist adding to his gun collection, amassing an impressive array of black powder firearms, including the Colt 45 that reminded him of the westerns he loved watching.
When cancer came, he faced it with the same strength he had always been known for. He knew he was ready. He met the end with peace, knowing he had lived fully and on his terms.
Marcel is survived by his wife and soulmate, Joyce (Brown); daughters, Deanna Struthers (Blair) of Halifax, Tania Maillet (Robert) of Moncton; son, Ian Doucett of Moncton; sister, Rose Landry of Moncton; grandchild, Raven Maillet and two step-grandchildren, Rebecca Foster and Brett Struthers.
In addition to his parents, Marcel was predeceased by a sister, Bernice Doucett and a brother, Robert Doucett.
In honoring Marcel's wishes, there will be no visitation hours or funeral service held. A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery later in the spring of 2025.
Donations in memory of Marcel can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
