We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our friend and colleague, Abe. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Pat and the entire family.
I first met Abe during my time at Dorchester Penitentiary. As Warden, I often consulted with him on Public Works projects, and from the very beginning I was struck by his engineering expertise, his efficiency, and his remarkable ability to cut through the usual “red tape.” Abe not only ensured projects were completed on time, but he was always mindful of staying within budget—something both the institution and I greatly appreciated.
I was grateful to work with him again when I served as project manager for the Renous prison project. Abe’s leadership as the lead engineer was invaluable. He guided that massive undertaking through countless technical decisions, contractor negotiations, and government policies with confidence and expert analysis. During that time, we became close colleagues and friends.
Although we lost touch for a while as I moved through various positions within CSC, reconnecting after my retirement and return to Moncton was inevitable.. We spent many hours at our “office”—Tim Hortons—sharing stories, reflecting on our years in the federal service, and enjoying the easy camaraderie that had always been there. I will miss those coffee times deeply, along with his spicy hummus and the other favourite recipes he loved to make. Abe was also a friend to my family as he often visited and interacted with our children and their school progress. Days before he passed away, he contacted me to inquire about my wife who is in a long term care home. We discussed the possibility of meeting again for coffee.
Abe was a skilled professional, a great debater, trusted colleague, and a cherished friend. I will remember him with gratitude and affection.
