Linda Murray

Obituary of Linda Murray

Linda Ethel Murray, 85, of MacDougall Settlement passed away on Monday, July 13th, 2026 at the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville, NB.

Linda was born in Sunny Brae (Moncton), NB and was the only child of the late Hardy and Audrey (MacKinnon) Colburne.

Linda was a brought up a city girl but life had a different plan for her. She met a true country guy, Earl Murray, while skating at the old Moncton Rink. They soon married and she moved to MacDougall Settlement, NB where they had a successful dairy farm, Elmmur Holsteins. She was involved in all aspects of the farm except milking.

According to Earl, she “lacked the necessary cow sense”. Together, they made a great team. Linda spent many hours lawn mowing, it was one of her favorite activities. As was making sure she knew “everything” that was going on in the family or community. It was hard to do anything without Linda knowing about it!

She was blessed with two girls and her love of agriculture, and the outdoors was passed on to her daughters. The oldest, Nancy, took over the family dairy farm. The youngest, Heather, became a large animal veterinarian. She was very proud of her girls!

She was very active in the church. First, as a member of the former St. David’s United in Scotch Settlement, NB and most recently Harrisville United in Moncton, NB. The Order of the Eastern Star was also important to her. She was a member of Zetland Chapter #26, Shediac, NB. and served as their secretary for many years. She was the long-time caretaker for the Scotch Settlement Cemetery.

Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband, Earl in 2011. She is survived by Nancy Murray (Garth Mallory) of MacDougall Settlement, NB and Heather Murray (Blair MacPherson) of Vernon, ON. She looked forward to visits from grandchildren: Logan, Rachel and Spencer Mallory, Luke and Kate MacPherson. Her extended family and friends will miss her as well.

At Linda’s request, there be no visitation or formal funeral service. A graveside service will be held at the Scotch Settlement Cemetery in late August.
