Obituary of Hazel Eunice Lewis
Hazel E. Lewis, of Calhoun, passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Thursday, April 9, 2009, at the age of 98.
Born in Amherst, NS; she was the daughter of the late Henry and Grace Toole. She was a charter member of Calhoun United Baptist Church and a life member of the Calhoun Women’s Institute. She was a long time member of the Calhoun Women's Missionary Society and life member of the Progressive Conservative Party.
During her life, Hazel had many interests; working on the farm, running her own convenience store, gardening, making homemade butter, and selling her homemade baked goods at the Farmers Market. She will be lovingly remembered for her delicious home baking, "green thumb", and outstanding memory as well as for her strength of character and deep faith in God. Hazel touched many lives and will always be deeply loved by family, friends, and her community.
She will be sadly missed by her son Harold (Helen) Lewis of Calhoun with whom she resided; her daughter Wanda (William) Hambrook of Calhoun; five grandchildren Larry (Sandra) Hambrook, Stephen (Sue) Lewis, Kimberley (Gilles) Legere, Joanne (Corey) Mills all of Calhoun and Michael (Jennifer) Lewis of Halifax; seven great grandchildren Caitlin and Arianna Hambrook, Clive Lewis, Alyssa and Rebecca Mills, Sarah and Gabriel Legere; her sister Verna (Neil) Simms of Moncton; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Roy Hinson Lewis in 1997, her grandson Trevor Lewis in 2008; three brothers Francis (Eileen), Vincent (Eileen), and Frederick (Frances) Toole and by two sisters Rachel (Wassel) Lewis and Mildred (Ken) Duke.
Resting at Tuttle Brothers Funeral Home, Lutz St. Moncton with visitation on Saturday, April 11, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
The funeral service will be held at Tuttle Brothers Memorial Chapel on Sunday, April 12, 2009 at 2:00 pm with Pastor David Evans officiating.
Interment will be at Fairhaven Memorial Gardens.
Donations in Hazel's memory made to Calhoun Baptist Church Memorial Fund, the Friends of the Moncton Hospital or to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
