Obituary of Doris Susan Winchester
Doris S. Winchester, 91, of Royal Court and formerly of Beverly Crescent in Riverview, NB; passed away at The Moncton Hospital, on Sunday, October 23, 2011. Born in England, she immigrated to Canada in 1957, following a visit to Canada to see a friend whom served with her in the WAAF. Doris worked in Fredericton as a care giver to seniors and as a receptionist at the Beaverbrook Hotel and finally as the manager of the Fredericton Boat Club. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in Riverview, NB.
The heart of her character was not to be wasteful, but resourceful, she mastered in practical applications for common things. She was a silver medalist in Ballroom Dancing, she was an avid reader and gardener. She was very much a family person and saw the world thru holidays.
She was a member of the Riverview Veteran's and Armed Forces Association. Doris was a veteran of WW II. serving with the Women's Auxiliary Air Force in England, where she was a transporter of crews to aircrafts during the blackouts in England.
She will sadly missed by her sisters Vera and Hilda; one brother Bill, all of England; nieces Fiona and Rachel, Ashley and Naomi, Sue and Barbara, nephews Steve and Jim; her step children Deirdre, Holly (Peter) and Guy (Kim); as well as her close circle of friends.
Besides her parents Ernest and Susan Whatmore, she was predeceased by her husband Donald R. Winchester in 2001 and her step daughter Valerie in 2002.
A memorial service will be held at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, Riverview, beginning with the Riverview Veteran's and Armed Forces service on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Brent Ham will be officiating the memorial service.
Interment Alderwood Cemetery in Riverview, NB.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Doris made to the memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated by her family.
