Obituary of Dr. Anna Mary Burditt
Dr. Anna M. Burditt,78, of Riverview and formerly of Halifax, NS, passed away at Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home in Moncton on Saturday, December 15, 2007. Born in Saint John, NB; she was the daughter of the late Arthur F. and Lila (White) Burditt. Prior to entering medical school, Anna was a Chemistry Research Technician in New York and Montreal. She began her internship from 1961 to 1963 at Montreal General Hospital and Queen Mary's Veteran Hospital in Montreal. From 1963 to 1976 she practiced Family Medicine in Saint John, NB and from 1977 to 1984 she served as Assistant Physician, Division of Family Medicine, Montreal General Hospital and as Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at McGill University. She retired as a result of a respiratory illness in 1984, however continued her studies and in 1996 she received her Masters in Sociology from Dalhousie University. Dr. Anna Burditt was the first Woman President of the College of Family Physicians of Canada, N.B. Chapter and served from 1969 to 1971.
She was a member of First United Baptist Church in Moncton. She was active in Baptist Missions and spent several weeks in Bolivia, as a doctor on a house boat travelling the Amazon River, treating villages along the way. She had a love for writing and it was her passion for writing, that resulted in the publishing of her many articles.
She will be sadly missed by her sister Doris Hoar of Riverview; her brother George Burditt of Saint John, NB; by her fourteen nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by two sisters Charlotte Sutherland and Alice MacLean and by one brother Albert Burditt.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends at the Riverview Funeral Home, Pine Glen Rd. Riverview on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 from 12:30pm until the time of the service.
The memorial service will be held at Riverview Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at 2:00 pm.
Interment will be in Fairhaven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
Donations in memory of Anna made to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by her family.
