Obituary of Kenneth Augusta McCutcheon
Born in Kings County 23 August 1930, Ken died 8 February 2014 at the Moncton Hospital. Predeceased by his parents, six siblings, and two half-siblings, he was the last survivor of Lelia May (Allen) McCutcheon Tucker’s nine children. His father, Arthur Augusta McCutcheon, died before Ken turned two.
Ken led a hard life. Out on his own from the age of 15, he worked at various labouring jobs, including a lengthy stint in Labrador. Then a horrendous motorcycle accident took the life of his best friend and cost Ken a large part of his working hand.
The labouring life was no longer an option, Ken moved to Moncton permanently back when its population was 14,000, and it seemed a great metropolis to a fellow from rural Kings County. There he found work as a taxi driver, and that became his trade. Ken loved Hyne’s restaurant, and dropped in each day for a cup of tea. The last time he ate there, in June, staff members greeted him as if he were still a regular.
Despite his injuries, he retained a strong interest in motorcycle racing, hanging around Blakeney’s Cycle and Motor Service, and travelling to meets with Roy Blakney.
Ken married and divorced twice. There were no children, and he settled down to a bachelor’s life at his home on Lewis Street, living alone there until he entered hospital last month. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews across Canada, as well as by relatives of his late stepfather, Burpee Tucker.
