Obituary of Hazel May Bell
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished mother, Hazel May Bell (Spence), at The Briarlea Home on Sunday, September 15, 2013 surrounded by her loving daughters and grandchildren. Born in Bayfield, NB on July 16, 1921 to the late Eva (MacNutt) and Percy Spence. Before marrying the love of her life, Wallace, she worked in the office of Chris Keenan & Sons. On November 15, 1941, she married Wallace Thompson Bell and together they enjoyed 71 wonderful years of marriage, until his passing on Sept 1, 2012. Mom's first priority was being a loving wife and mother. In later years, she would work during the Christmas season in the Catalogue Order office at Eaton's. She became "Girl Friday" for D.W. Fowler Plumbing until she and Wallace retired in 1981. She was a member of the former Humphrey Memorial United Church. Mom leaves with us many unforgettable memories: daughters Carole Bell of Moncton; Joan Bell of Calgary, AB, Heather Bell (Brian "Barney" Williamson) of Riverview; sister Hilda Bell of Moncton; grandchildren Jeff (Teresa) Cherpeta, Tracy (Andrew) Johnson; Derrick McGougan; step grandchildren Phillip and Andrew Williamson; great grandchildren Lindsey, Kevin, Kristen, Alexandra, Tristan and Kyle. She will also be remembered by many special nieces and nephews along with many dear friends. She was predeceased by step sister Marion (Spence) Carter. She loved the outdoors, gardening, flower beds, sitting on the swing, picnics, campfires, cooking for thousands with her sister Hilda at the camp at West River, early morning walks at the camp and moonlight skiing on the bog with Dad, ballroom dancing (she always led!), horseback riding in the Rockies, and skating arm and arm on Jones Lake with her only true love. She did it all with her "darling" and loved life to the fullest. Even though she struggled with health issues this past year, the struggle of surviving a broken heart was more than she could bare. She constantly told us how lucky she was and what a wonderful life she had. "How thankful we are to Reverend Christine MacLeod for all her many visits over the past year with her wonderful words of wisdom, comfort and strength for Mom and us. Mom so loved your beautiful voice when you sang to her "In the Garden" - it always soothed and calmed her and made her smile." Many thanks to our Briarlea "family" Mandy, Stacey, Deb, Carole, Steph, Shelley and the rest of you special girls, David, Terry, Sean Nurse Annie, Dr. Pierre Beaulieu, once again you didn't just do your job, you all went above and beyond for "Hazey" and also for us, the family.
