Obituary of Howard Hudson Rae

Howard Hudson Rae, born February 8, 1927 in Moncton, NB passed away quietly at The Landmark, a retirement and nursing home in Cobourg, ON on November 27, 2005 with his daughter Karen and her husband Matthew at his side. We would like to express our gratitude to the staff of The Landmark for all their efforts in making Dad comfortable during his final months with us. Howard is the son of Edward Howard Rae of Roxburgh, NB and Ethel Gertrude Hudson of West Newberry, Mass, USA. He is predeceased by his parents, his loving wife, Vera Catherine (Mills), beloved daughter Gail Catherine Culhane, much loved granddaughter Kimberly Connell and his cherished brother Edward (Buddy) Allen Rae. He will be greatly missed by his brother, Robert of Dalhousie, NB and sister, Mary (Trainor) of Moncton, NB as well as by his loving children, Karen Rae Short and Matthew of Fenelon Falls, ON, Daniel and Lina of Fredericton, NB and Donna Rae Szalinski and Zbig of Geelong, Australia and grandchildren Mathieu Rae, Calgary, AL, Michelle Rae, Fredericton, Daniel, Christopher and Jonathon Szalinski, Geelong, Australia, step-grandchildren Lisa Short and Jackie Short and Michael Cavanagh of Markham, ON, great-grandchildren Amy, Maddie and Jamie as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Howard retired from the Payroll Office for Canadian National Railways in 1982 following 38 years of service. He was active with the Intercolonial Credit Union prior to retirement and very much enjoyed playing darts with his friends. Some will remember him from his early years as a hockey referee. In his retirement years others will recall him relaxing at his cottage in Caissie Cape before moving to live near his daughters in Ontario. Howard dearly loved his wife, children and grandchildren, doing his best for us and will be fondly remembered as Pop. Visitation is at Tuttle Brothers Funeral Home, Lutz St. Moncton, on Thursday, December 1, 2005 from 7 - 9 PM. The Funeral Service will be held at Tuttle Brothers Memorial Chapel, Lutz St. Moncton on Friday, December 2, 2005 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Jim MacDonald officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association or the charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by his family.
