Obituary of Joseph Farrell

Farrell, C.J. (Joe), 83, died peacefully Sunday, January 15th at the Moncton Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in his beloved town of Arthur, ON, he was the son of the late James and Della (Gainer) Farrell. He moved to Toronto at the age of three with his mother, brother and sister following the death of his father. Joe's summers were spent in Arthur at the farms of various uncles. It was there that he developed his life-long love of animals, especially horses. Joe began is working career in 1941 with C.N.R. in Toronto and subsequently moved to Montreal, then to Dartmouth and finally to Moncton. He retired from CN Marine in 1976. Joe was a fan of most sports and in his youth he was a good amateur boxer as well as a good softball and broomball player. Joe was actively involved with his sons in both minor hockey and minor baseball in St. Eustache, QC and Dartmouth, NS. He was a good student and avid reader and was especially interested in military history. Joe followed politics closely and was eagerly awaiting the results of the upcoming federal election. Besides his parents, he was predeased by his brother, Jimmy and daughter-in-law, Penny (Morrisey) Farrell. He is survived by sons John (Lynn) of Bridgewater, NS, Dan (Kim) of Dartmouth, NS, Mike (Janet), Cindy (John) Lewis, Tracey Murray and Tim, all of Riverview, NB. Joe took great joy in his grandchildren, Riley, Eryn, Christa, Tara, Andrew, Nick, Nancy, Melanie and Bridget and great-grandchildren, Kyra and Logan. He is also survived by his dear sister, Margaret Leah, of Toronto as well as several neices and nephews. Viewing and visitation will be held at The Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Rd. on Tuesday January 17, 2006 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at the Riverview Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday January 18, 2006 at 10:00 AM with Father Allison Carroll officiating. In Joe's memory, donations made to The Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by his family.
