Obituary of Marion Jeanette McNeary
Marion Jeanette (Sleigh) McNeary died August 10, 2012, with family around her, after a lengthy illness. Throughout her 74 years, Marion embraced life with zest, energy and a teasing sense of humour. Her courage and strength of character in the face of great hardship, including the loss of her husband and partner, Leo, 26 years ago, and an extended struggle with Parkinson's Disease, was an example to her four daughters and to all who knew her. Devoted to her family, Marion also maintained many friendships and found time for a wide range of interests including music, particularly Elvis songs; travel, including to Tennessee, Florida and Europe; bowling in a league; card games with the girls; and watching car racing. Marion was born March 15, 1938 in Halifax, NS, the daughter of the late Fred Sleigh and Margaret McCulloch Sleigh. After graduation she worked at the Bank of Montreal in Halifax, where she met Leo. She married Leo John McNeary on April 23, 1960. The couple moved to Riverview in 1967, where Leo worked at Targetair Ltd. Leo died in July of 1986. After many years raising her family she returned to the workforce at Credit Union Central of New Brunswick , retiring in 1997. She was predeceased by her brother Fred (Bobby) Sleigh. Marion is survived by her brother Harold (and wife Teri), B.C., her sisters Dorothy Roberts and Jeannie Gray, both of Halifax, NS; sister-in-law Glenda Sleigh of Oyster Pond,NS and her four daughters; Dianne (Terry) Toner, Sackville NS, Kathleen, Riverview, Joanne, Moncton, and Patti (James) Geldart, Riverview; and her seven grandchildren, Heather, Patrick, Michael, Kael, Aidan, Colin, and Hunter. The family offers special thanks to Paulette Wallace and the wonderful and dedicated staff at PROTEM Health Services Inc for their compassion and kindness, to Dr. Jody Enright, Dr. Phelan and the many dedicated health professionals involved in caring for Marion over the many years of her illness. She will be resting at the Riverview Funeral Home, with visiting hours on Sunday, August 12, 2012 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm & 7:00pm - 9:00pm. At 8:30pm Sunday evening there will be parish prayers and sharing of memories at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 13, 2012 at 11:00am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 5 Fatima Dr., Riverview, with Rev. Father Phil officiating. There will be a reception following the mass. The burial will take place at Our Lady of Calvary Roman Catholic Cemetery. The family request donations in Marion's memory may be made to the Parkinson Society or charity of donors choice.
