Obituary of Audrey Webster
Audrey Webster, 84, of Moncton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. Born in Bridgewater, NS, she was the only daughter of the late Eva (Robar) and Russell Mailman, wife of Gordon Webster, and mother to daughters Elisabeth and Kristine Webster.
Audrey grew up in Chelsea, NS and attended Mount Allison University in Sackville, NB where she met her future husband, Gordon. They married in 1962, settled in Moncton, and had their two daughters.
She lived a full and vibrant life from beginning to end and enriched the lives of countless other people, most especially the more than 9000 students she taught during her career as a teacher. Audrey’s first teaching job was at Harrison Trimble High School and she loved to tell the story that she looked so young at the time, the principal once mistook her for a student, admonishing her for using the staircase reserved for teachers. She finished her teaching career at Riverview High School. Audrey loved teaching math, physics and calculus and took great pride in knowing many of her students went off to have successful careers in related professions. Despite her small size, Audrey was a commanding presence in the classroom in her smart business suits and matching high heel shoes. When she retired, Audrey traded her business suits for athletic wear and became a regular gym goer first at the YMCA and later at Goodlife. She was often accompanied by her daughter, Kristine, who lamented the fact that her retirement age mother could bench press more than her.
Audrey was also a dedicated bridge player and looked forward to playing with her longtime bridge partners Joanne, Carolyn and Lorraine. She became an expert jam and pickle maker and loved sharing her homemade canned goods with family and friends.
Audrey is survived by her longtime husband Gordon; her daughters Elisabeth and Kristine Webster, her cousin Granville Robar, and her son-in-law Stephen McClellan.
The family would like to say a very special thank you to all the staff and Doctors at the Moncton Hospital who worked tirelessly to ensure she had the best care and comfort possible.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a visitation in Audrey’s honour from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, March 5 th at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road (506-858-1995) Moncton. A private funeral service will be held at a later date at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Chelsea, NS.
