Obituary of Allen Oulton Hanington
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Allen Oulton Hanington of Shediac Cape. Allen passed away at the Villa Providence, Shediac, NB on June 06, 2024 at the age of 87 surrounded by his family.
Allen was born and raised on the family farm in Shediac Cape. Mom and Dad built their own home and raised us five children on this same land. He loved to visit his children in Calgary and in Halifax but was always home in Shediac for Christmas. He would be described as “Jack of All Trades”. Allen was a skilled farmer and craftsman. Throughout his career he worked with GB Murphy Jewelry, Atlantic Truck Rental, Allied Photography and prior to his retirement in 2001, he worked as a custodian at the Moncton School Board.
He was raised on the family farm and continued with those responsibilities for many years. He was kind-hearted and treated everyone with respect. He deeply loved his family. He watched them grow and is so proud of them all. To those closest to him, he was known as Al, Dad, Popsie, and Papa. Allen loved nature and loved to be outside puttering in the yard, planting flowers and vegetables. At the age of 80, he rebuilt the front deck so he and mom could sit and watch the birds and have lunch. He loved to cross country ski, roast marshmallows in the fire pit. He also loved to read.
Allen is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Willa Hanington (Parks), with whom he resided at the Villa Providence; as well as his children, James, Heather LeBlanc (Leo-Paul), John, and Rob (Mary) sisters, Edith Hanington of Halifax and Lilian Hamilton of Shediac Cape, brother-in-law Allan (Janice) Parks. Grandchildren Meghan, Genevieve, William John Hanington, Mark LeBlanc, Kevin LeBlanc (Alisha), Wesley LeBlanc, Mike LeBlanc, Jackie Carvers and 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He is the son of the late John Moore and Ada Louisa (Adams) Hanington. He was close to all his 9 siblings. Many of the family would describe him as the glue of the family as he was always doing something for others in the family, or for friends or the community.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by son Mark, sisters, Doris (Bill) Wood, Ethel (Don) Jones, Margaret (John) Harvey, Mary (Ralph) Rimmer, Florence (Hugh) Hicks, Muriel (Ron) Jones; brother William Hanington (Bea), brother-in law Jack Parks (Beulah), sister-in-law Audrey Davidson (Jess).
