Obituary of Paul Francis Young

It is with much sadness and heavy heart that I announce thee passing of my father Paul Francis Young of Riverview passed away at home on Monday, September 9, 2024 in his 91st year.

Born in Miramichi West, NB Paul was the son of the late Harvey Young and Greta (O’Leary) Young.

Paul retired after many years working as a Union Representative within the Pulp and Paper Industry in the city of Miramichi, NB and New Richmond Quebec. After his career within the Mill Industry, he attended the Labor College of Canada and worked for the Canadian Paper Workers Union, he then went onto work for Communications, Energy and Paper Workers which lead to working with Unifor of Canada. No matter living in Quebec, Fredericton or Riverview he loved being a Miramichier. He was a proud and devoted Catholic, Paul was a trusted loyal friend and greatly respected by the companies that he went up against to get the best deal done for every union that he represented over his 40-year career. He was outgoing and had a big personality. He was old school, tough, fair and had an incredible heart filled with love for his family, especially his wife Elaine.

Paul is survived by his son Dana Young with whom he resided.

Besides his parents, Paul was predeceased by his loving wife Elaine Frances (Matthews) in 2009; brother, David Young in 2010.

At his request cremation will take place at Fergusons Crematorium, Riverview. Graveside prayers will be said at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, 360 Newcastle Blvd, Miramichi, NB at a later date.

Donations in Paul’s memory made to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
