Ruby H. Myers
1910 - 2008
The death of Ruby Helen Myers widow of Dr. Ralph P. Myers occurred at the Briarlea on Saturday, February 23, 2008.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland on March 15, 1910 she was the daughter of the late Peter George Rendall Macinnes and Fanny Stewart Burns.
She was a member of St. John's United Church.
Community minded, Ruby was a canvasser for the Community Chest (later United Way) and served as a Director on the Budget Committee for a number of years. Other organizations also benefited from Ruby's interest in her community. She held the position of treasurer on the Provincial Board V.O.N. and served on the local board. Ruby was a founding member of the Moncton S.P.C.A. Inc. and for several years was their President. She was a Director of the Provincial S.P.C.A.
Ruby was a member of the Fort Monckton Chapter I.O.D.E. and over the years held every office including Regent. Her favourite office was that of Education Secretary as it gave her an opportunity to visit many schools in the area. Her chapter awarded her the Primary Life Membership in 1979.
The International College of Surgeons, Women's Auxiliary Canadian Section elected Ruby to the position of Regent for Atlantic Canada, a position she held for ten years, giving it up when her husband retired
Curling was a sport Ruby thoroughly enjoyed. She was a Charter member of the Beaver Curling Club and served as President of the Lady Beavers.
She is survived by her son Ian of Shediac Bridge; a brother George B. Macinnes of Seamill, West Kilbride, Scotland; a cousin Mrs. Margeret Menzies of Leslieville, Alberta and by nieces and nephews in Nova Scotia, Ontario and Scotland.
Ruby was predeceased by her sister Irene and her brother Hamish.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation is at Tuttle Brother’s Funeral Home, 171 Lutz St. Moncton on Monday, February 25, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm.
The funeral service will be held at Tuttle Brother’s Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Aaron Billard officiating. A reception will follow the service.
Interment will be in Fortengal Cemetery, Perthshire, Scotland in the spring.
