Obituary of Vivien Brennan
Maryanna Vivien (Swazey) Brennan, AKA Viv, Vivien, Toots, Tootie died on Wednesday Feb 21,2024 at the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville NB surrounded by family in a room full of love, stories and song. She was predeceased by – well - practically everyone of her generation on both the Swazey and the Brennan side. This is what happens when you’re born in 1927.
While Mum left Boiestown a few times in her life (to attend Convent school in Newcastle, and to obtain her business certificate after high school), she quickly returned home to live a full life of service and commitment to family and community.
While dementia may have robbed us of parts of the person Mum used to be, it is not her legacy nor is it what we will remember her for. We will remember Mum for her quick and wide smile, her sweetness, sarcasm, piano playing, knitting skills and the comfort in knowing she was praying for her family daily.
To love Mum was to love carrot cake, potato salad, banana bread, ANY squares, cream pies, a sing-song, and the occasional dirty joke; and to detest tiger lilies, snakes, poor manners, indoor plants, the smell of cooking fish and most vegetables. Mum believed we were all God’s children, no matter who we may (or may not) worship, the colour of our skin, or preference of partner.
If you are from Boiestown, you are likely familiar with the women of Mum’s generation: practical, wise, loving, smart, service driven and steadfast in their faith. How lucky we were to grow up in the presence of these women, and we can all imagine their hands quietly on our shoulders throughout our lives as we moved on to make our way in this world.
Deb, Dawn, Denise and their families will miss their dear Mum/Nanny as will her brothers, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Her legacy is her faith, and service to family and community.
A funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Annunciation, Main St., Doaktown, NB on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 11:00 am with interment to follow at St. Joachim's Cemetery, Route 8, Boiestown, NB. A reception will be held at 1:00 pm at The Central New Brunswick Woodman's Museum, 6342 Route 8, Boiestown,NB.
In Viviens memory, donations made to the Alzheimers Society or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
