Obituary of David Harley Stewart
On Thursday, May 13, 2021, the world lost the kindest, gentlest, most hilarious and wildly inappropriate soul you could ever meet. He had a heart of gold, and in his words, "a voice made for TV and a face for radio". His sense of humour and sarcasm was second to none and you could never get ahead of him. Trust us, we tried. He left this earth suddenly-we think he did it on purpose to avoid another colonoscopy, because his first one included, as he described it, "everyone who walked by the door".
David Harley Stewart was born April 11, 1960 to his loving parents, Harley and Doreen (Swazey) Stewart. He grew up in a family of strong faith, strong bonds, and much love. He is survived by his soul mate and very best friend, Rachel (Bordage) and his pride and joy-his son Matthew. He also leaves behind his brother Brian (Tracy) Stewart and nieces Jenna and Kate as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. David was also loved by his wife’s enormous family which includes many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Being raised to know that family is more important than anything, it is not surprising that Dave was adored by his many aunts, uncles and cousins (many of whom were also some of his best friends). He made friends wherever he went, so it goes without saying he had them near and far-too numerous to name. He truly was loved beyond measure. Dave built a successful accounting business and will be sadly missed by his many clients. He was a brilliant history buff, skilled outdoorsman (he loved the river and the woods equally), an avid curler, highly loyal, secretly sensitive, and always the funniest guy in the room. He could turn an average vasectomy story into a hilariously descriptive monologue that would leave your sides aching. And he’d want us to mention that.
There are no guarantees in this world, but a few things we are absolutely certain of:
(1) No other human being loved pie as much as David Stewart
(2) Heinz Ketchup will be bankrupt by the end of the year without David’s unwavering financial contribution to this lifelong addiction
(3) He loved Rachel and Matthew madly, deeply, always, forever.
Due to COVID restrictions a private Celebration of Life will occur on the banks of the Miramichi River where Dave felt most at home and at peace.
